Events in Barbados in April

Who can believe that almost a quarter of the year has gone by already? Not to worry, there is still plenty of time left in the year to enjoy all things Barbados! We have put together a list of fun events in Barbados that are happening over the month of April. Make sure to try out as many as you can!

The Barbados Auto League – Clash of the Champions Race Meet

BARL Competitors from all over the Caribbean come together at Bushy Park racetrack to vie for the top spot on the podium. This event is electric, with many cars on the track at the same time. Spectators are guaranteed to see a lot of action. Bring your cooler and park on the grounds or watch from the clubhouse.

Apes Hill India Polo Tour

Apes Hill PoloPolo has been played in Barbados since 1884 according to historical records, and today it is one of the most popular sports on the island. Matches draw large crowds of families who come out to enjoy an afternoon of entertainment and fun.

Time: Games start at 3:30 PM

West Indies Regional 4 Day Tournament

West Indies CricketThis match is Round VI: CCC vs Guyana. These Regional matches are major events when held in Barbados and are generally well attended.

Barbados Horticultural Society Open Garden Program

Barbados Horticultural SocietyThis is the final showing of private gardens in Barbados for 2013, and will be hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Beckles. Check the Horticultural Society website for directions.

Frutee Dinghy Regatta Race 2

Barbados Yacht clubThe Dinghy Regatta Race consists of a total of ten races, and is sailed over two Sundays using a windward leeward or trapezoid course. It’s great fun to watch onshore, while enjoying a couple of cold drinks!

Transport Board Sunday Scenic Bus Tour

Barbados scenic tourThis is an inexpensive and relatively comfortable way to see portions of Barbados in a very informal atmosphere. Pack a picnic basket and meet at Independence Square at 2:00 PM. Bus tours travel a different route each Sunday, making 2 or 3 stops along the way. Various routes are available and occasionally the tours do not run.

Lion Castle Brazil Polo Tour

Lion Castle PoloThese polo matches are attended by families who come out to enjoy an afternoon of entertainment and fun. Match days may change due to inclement weather, so call the Barbados Polo Club hotline on 826-POLO (7956) to confirm match dates and times.

The Mountaintop by Katori Hall

The Mountain topA play about the Martin Luther King’s last night on earth, and is set entirely in room 306 of the Lorraine Motel on the eve of his assassination on April 4th, 1968. This play first premièred in London in 2009 and has won the Olivier Best Play award.

The BRC Mud Dogs April Safari Round 2

Mud DogsThere are six rounds to this championship, with competitors following a preset route around the island, and trying to complete challenges that test the driver and their vehicles ability. Not to be missed! This event is lots of fun for the whole family. Get more info on the route from their website, pack a cooler and find a good spot!

Hike Barbados

Dsc_2828Hike Barbados is a Barbados Nation Trust organised free hiking group. On these hikes you will encounter cane fields, gullies, tropical forests and coastal communities. These hikes last about three hours, so taking lots of water is very important. In addition, there are 5 different difficulty levels, so make sure to contact them to find out what level the various walks are.

Barbados Turf Club Race days

3098623889_1cb71cafed_zHorse Racing in Barbados has taken place at the Garrison Savannah for over 150 years. There are three seasons of racing per year. These seasons run from January to April, May to August and from October to December, normally every other Saturday. There are usually nine races per day.

Gun Hill by Moonlight

Gun HillThis event is held by the Barbados National Trust on the Friday closest to the Full Moon. It’s a chance for people to get together and enjoy the sunsets and brilliant moonlight while socializing and consuming a few cocktails. You don’t need to bring a cooler, as refreshments are included.

NATIONAL HEROES DAY – BANK HOLIDAY

In 1998 the Parliament of Barbados formally recognized ten figures in Barbados history and designated them as National Heroes. Most shops are closed for the day because it is a bank holiday so it’s a good idea to stock up the day before. Pack a picnic basket and spend the day with the locals on the beach!
