Boosy’s Surf School

by Monique

Boosy's Surf SchoolBarbados has some of the best surf breaks (well we certainly think so), perfect for all levels of surfers from beginner to intermediate. And, even the pros love our very own Soup Bowl in Bathsheba which is on the East coast of the island.

If you’re planning a holiday in Barbados, definitely give Boosy’s Surf School a call to book your surf lessons. The instructor, Christian Boos, provides his students with an informative introduction to surfing that is safe, professional and fun! You’re guaranteed to stand up on a wave on the first lesson!

Since Barbados has some of the best, most consistent waves in the Caribbean, there are always waves suitable for surfing lessons. Boosy’s Surf School is mobile so where ever the waves best suitable for the lesson are, that is where he’s taking you.

Locals can learn to surf with Boosy’s Surf School as well, just contact Christian to arrange a lesson…

Where do surf lessons take place?

Most surf lessons are taught at “Freights Bay” (Cotton House Bay) which is located just south of Oistins in Atlantic Shores on the South coast of Barbados. Freights Bay is primarily a left point break; a perfect surf spot for beginners that boasts long, pealing, perfect waves, as it is situated below a cliff face which shelters the break from strong winds making the water nice and calm. As an added perk, there are even some sea turtles hanging around in the surf that will pop up for air from time to time.

On days when the surf is just too small, Boosy will teach at Surfer’s Point which is in Inch Marlow, only bout 5 minutes further South from Freights Bay. Surfers Point is also a left point break, usually quite windy but still ideal for learning to surf.  For intermediate to advanced surfers, Boosy will take you to Parlour in Bathsheba on the East coast of the island.

A little about your instructor

Christian Neville Boos, endearingly called Boosy by most, is the founder of Boosy’s Surf School and is also who will take you on surfing lessons and surf tours. Christian has been a surf instructor for 4 years and has taught well over hundreds of people how to surf. Boosy offers some great surfing tips and has a high success rate of getting people to stand up in their first lesson (seriously no lie!). Boosy has loads of experience and patience which has been developed from many years of instruction. He is also the father of one son, Gabriel, who is four years old and is always eager to get in the surf too.
