Best events for Barbados Crop Over 2012!

by Monique

It’s the last lap for all socaholics in Barbados! And boy is it a jam packed week! Pull out your flag, do a few stretches, thank your liver in advance and let’s get this countdown started!

These are the Crop Over events for 2012 that I’m attending:

Soca TitansTuesday 31st July: Soca Titans

Soca Titans, last year, was probably THE best party I attended for Crop Over in Barbados. Even with the torrential downpour, the artists put on a good show. But then again, anything headed by Machel is SURE to be a great time. This year, Machel and our homeboy Lil’ Rick go head to head at the Astro turf at Sir Garfield Sobers Gymnasium. Doors open at 9:00 pm; party starts at 10:00 pm.

Other events: Party tent at Harbour Lights…

Mudd at Harbour LightsFriday 3rd August: Jouvert

Jouvert is my next favourite event of the soca season. This year I’m on the road with the Harbour Lights band but there’s also a new band Mixed Nuts everyone is raving about. I’ve also played with Jambalasse a couple years in a row, which is run by the sister of a friend of mine. We meet at Harbour Lights anytime from 9:30 pm. A shuttle takes us to the starting point at midnight and back to Harbour Lights between 4:00 am to 5:00 am to bring in the sunrise, mud stylee.

Other events: Pic‐O‐De-Crop finals at Kensington Oval…

BlissSaturday 4th August: Bliss

I’ve always heard great things about this all-inclusive party, but this year wil be my first to experience it first hand. Bliss is hosted by Esquire Entertainment at Porters Great House (this year) and promises to be packed with great music, food and flowing drinks.

Other events: Bridgetown market on Spring Garden Highway…

Barge CruiseSunday 5th August: Barge Cruise

There are many kadooment cruises during the season but this very exclusive event is the ultimate primer, the day before Crop Over. It’s a day cruise, fantastically organised and always with a surprise soca artist who jumps on board half way through.

Other events: Cohobblopot at Kensington Oval…

Grand kadooment dayMonday 6th August: De day (Grand Kadooment)!

Wake up, brush teeth, eat a fried egg, drink a cup of coffee, get dressed up in costume, shimmy your way into the car without beads tearing a preempted run in your tights, meet the band, drink your first special punch — All before 8:30 am. 😉 Have fun this year everyone and be safe!

There are no other events you should be attending… 🙂

Here’s a little something by Lil’ Rick: “I like muhself!”
