Barbados Vs Wozniak

by Jonathan

I’ve always been impressed with the large number of professional sporting events hosted on these 167 square miles. Whether it’s cricket, horse racing, polo, rally or surfing, you would be hard-pressed to find a week in the calendar without some kind of professional sporting event.

Now you can add Segway polo to the list. Barbados’ own team, Flyin’ Fish, won the Woz Cup in Germany last year. This year Barbados is hosting. “Woz” refers to Steve Wozniak, Apple co-founder and Segway polo player. His team, The Silicon Valley Aftershocks, was beaten by Barbados in 09 and judging by some of his recent comments, they’re looking for revenge:

We thought Barbados would be kind of like the Jamaican bobsled team. We really respected the German team; we heard the Austrians were very good, too. We went in thinking we have a chance to win. And luck was actually with us. We lost one match to Austria. We made it to the finals and Barbados … well, the first time we watched them, we acknowledged that they were very good. They could hit that shot good and fast, like a soccer shot.
