Sandy Lane Gold Cup Day

Held every March, Sandy Lane Gold Cup is the highlight of the Sandy Lane Festival. It is without a doubt one of the biggest sporting events in Barbados, with horses and jockeys from all over the world vying for the top spot at this premier race. Parking is hard to find, and we would recommend you get there very early if you wish to park anywhere in the vicinity of the Garrison.

Date: March 2nd
Time: Gold Cup race starts at 4:50 PM [other races are on throughout the day]
Admission: Entrance fee to various stands starts at $50.00 BBD for the day and admission is free to the infield area of the grounds.

Virgin Atlantic Holders Season

A musical festival held at Holders Plantation House that has been around for twenty years in Barbados. Shows feature international artists of Opera, Gospel, Comedy and Theatre Jazz. This year one of the highlights is the “Basil Faulty Dining Experience”. You can relax before the shows or wander through the gardens. Tickets are limited.

Date: March 9th, 12th, 14th, 16th, 18th, 20th, and 23rd
Time: Gates open at 5:30 PM and performances start at 7:00 PM sharp

International Test Cricket

The first of two test matches between the West Indies and Zimbabwe. Watch the game for just one day or all. These international test matches are major events when held in Barbados, and are generally well attended.

Barbados Hash House Harriers Weekly run

A weekly run/walk by as many as 100 participants who meet every Sunday and on a Bank Holiday. Different places on the island are chosen each week, and participants can just show up and take part. You can walk or run, but one thing that you can’t do is be late! A great way to spend a Sunday and see parts of the island you normally wouldn’t be able to.

Polo Barbados

Polo has been played in Barbados since 1884 according to historical records, and today it is one of the most popular sports on the island. Matches draw large crowds of families who come out to enjoy an afternoon of entertainment and fun. We have included events being held at three of the local polo clubs. 2013 Regional Super 50 Cricket Match

Round four of the Super 50 Cricket series, this match features Barbados vs Windward Islands and takes place at the Kensington Oval.

Cool Jazz at the Waterfront Cafe

Various jazz artists play from around 7:30 PM until 10:30 PM at the Waterfront Cafe at The Harbour. You can have dinner and stay on to listen to the music or just come later and have a few drinks at the bar, while taking in the great sounds of our local artists. Both indoor and outdoor dining are available, but these weekly shows are very popular so reservations are recommended.

Two Guitars by the Hilton Pool

Enjoy a sundowner while sitting by the pool and enjoying the music of an experienced guitar duo performing soft rock, pop and Caribbean songs.

Laff-it-off 2013: Come Clean

This year the show is a hilarious and side splitting commentary about local events on island such as planned layoffs, Garcia’s freedom, and where in Barbados you can buy land, or where and how the national insurance shares were invested. Not a show to be missed. Bajan lingo used and inside jokes related to local events, which may not be understood by visitors.

The Atlantis Hotel famous Sunday Buffet Lunch

This Bajan buffet is extensive! A full three course lunch, with everything you can imagine being offered. This amazing lunch is offered every Sunday at Atlantis and should be experienced at least once by everyone!

Transport Board Sunday Scenic Bus Tour

This is an inexpensive and relatively comfortable way to see portions of Barbados in a very informal atmosphere. Tickets are available from the change booths at Fairchild Street or Princess Alice Terminals in Bridgetown, and the Speightstown Terminal in Speightstown. Pack a picnic basket and meet at Independence Square at 2:00 pm. This bus tour travels a different route each Sunday, making 2 or 3 stops along the way. Various routes are available and occasionally the tours do not run.

MCBI Speed Event

Hundreds of spectators turn out with coolers and umbrellas to watch rally cars compete against each other. Next to cricket, rallying is the most popular sporting event on Barbados. The public road being used is closed off, so if you are attending you will need to go two hours before the start of the race and you won’t be able to leave until the event has ended. Alternatively, you can park “near” and walk in. Must haves are water and sunblock!

Hike Barbados Turners Hall Hill

Hike Barbados is a Barbados Nation Trust organised free hiking group. On these hikes you will encounter cane fields, gullies, tropical forests and coastal communities.
